Afro Art Festival
Funded by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability,
Integration, and Youth (DCEDIY) in 2023, as part of the initiative to support
the implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent in
Ireland, the Afro Art Festival is set to be a one-day event dedicated to
celebrating and empowering Artists of African Descent residing in Ireland.
This festival will host a workshop specifically designed for Artists of African descent, featuring insightful addresses and interactive sessions led by a diverse panel of experts in entrepreneurship, employment, art, and culture. The workshop aims to identify the unique challenges faced by African artists in these fields and collaboratively explore potential solutions.
EmpowerHer
Project implemented in late 2023, this economic empowerment
- EmpowerHer is a unique employment program that is designed to provide
dedicated solution to problems faced by migrant women in Ireland. By
identifying the crises that migrant women go through in everyday life, in
liminal cultural, social, and institutional spaces, EmpowerHer seeks to unlock
maximum potential amongst the participants by combining educational and
experiential knowledge, verbal as well as non-verbal tacit skills, EmpowerHer
seeks to cognitively and affectively take into account the diverse skills
migrant women possess. Individual screening sessions, group meetings,
mentoring programs and providing additional training are set to enable migrant
women to be able to access employment opportunities of their preference.
Through this enriching platform, the Afro Art Festival seeks
not only to showcase the vibrant contributions of African artists to the
cultural tapestry of Ireland but also to pave the way for greater inclusion and
recognition in the arts sector.
